Nevertheless, you have to remember these same students got through it and if they can do so can you. You will sacrifice your playtime if you want to do well but it will be worth it in the end.
A student in a LPN program can expect to study at least three hours a night. Your commitment must be high and your discipline strong to achieve success as a LPN. Let your desire to become a nurse drive you and do not be afraid to ask for help from LPNs that have been where you stand now. Form a routine in the beginning and stick to it. It will save you from veering off the LPN path. Reportedly, students who fail to make the cut, failed to create a routine that they could work with. Another reported reason for failure was students that did not want to give up their social life for a better financial future. Put family and friends on notice about your commitment to your studies and ask that they understand that for at least a year that you may not be able to attend certain functions. Elicit their support upfront and this will make it easier for you in the end.
You can also expect to practice on your fellow classmates and them likewise with you. Reportedly, by one LPN student, the instructor made him aware on the first day that students would practice giving NG tubes and catheters to each other. If this kind thing makes you uncomfortable, you might want to reconsider your profession. However, keep in mind that you are expected as a LPN to do this type procedure on your patient, so what better place to learn than first in the classroom setting.
A LPN program is a lot of hard work. There is a lot of competition and not everyone that enters will succeed in passing. With that said, with your discipline, self-determination, strong desire to become a LPN, and the routine to ask for help when and wherever you can get it, you cannot fail.
